About the project
Because I was speaking about relationships of love, I wanted the characters’ hands to touch — and from this came the second series.
Next to the glass studio in Taoxichuan, there was a remarkable exhibition of Tibetan art, where I encountered prints depicting the hand gestures of the Buddha and their meanings. I had brought with me some Bohemian crystal chandelier pieces, the region where I live and learned glassmaking — without knowing whether I would use them. From this encounter, the series emerged: using the hand positions of Tibetan Buddhas and creating chains of Bohemian crystal as symbols of relationships, four installations took shape, each representing a different kind of love:
“I Love You and Feel Loved by You,” “Spiritual Love,” “Solitude Is Not Loneliness,” and “PolyAmory.”
